STEM-UP
Enhancing, Facilitating, and Challenging Students
STEM-Up Academy is sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is designed to increase the number of minority students completing an Associate Degree at the Hinds CC-Utica Campus and pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in STEM areas at four year colleges or universities. The goal of the project is to strengthen students’ academic experiences by developing bridges that support their advancement from one educational level to the next. UC3T STEM-UP is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Undergraduate Program with a core strategy that focuses on:
- Enhancing students’ problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Enhancing STEM students’ ability to use technology in content-specific and general areas
- Introducing students to STEM research
- Providing students with a head-start on their STEM college careers
- Facilitating student success and transfer to four year institutions
- Challenging students to achieve the highest level of intellectual and personal development is a focus of the Math and Science department on the Utica Campus.
- Financial support based on eligibility: tuition, room and board, books, school supplies, and/or stipend *Federal funds (Pell Grant) will be applied prior to any additional financial support
- Research opportunity at participating universities or colleges
- Opportunities for summer internship(s)
- Tutorial and mentoring support
- Use of the latest technology, computer labs, and laptops
- One-on-one guidance into STEM related fields
- Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- Technology: Aerospace Technology, Computer Science
- Engineering: Chemical, Civil, Computer, Environmental
- Mathematics: Actuary, Mathematician, Statistician
Program Requirements
- Composite score of 17 or above on the ACT and achieve a 2.5 or above GPA
- Choose Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics as an area of interest
- Enroll in Hinds CC Utica Campus as a full-time college student
- Submit STEM-UP application and all supporting documents
- Participate in the Summer College Success Camp
- File Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

SSAIL (Summer STEM Academic Integrated Learning Camp)
Two-Week Camp for Rising High School 11th and 12th Grade Students
The Camp Includes:
- College Preparatory Instructions
- Laboratories in STEM
- Stimulating STEM Speakers & Field Trips
- Opportunity for Dual Credit (Fall 2021)

M-in-STEM
The goal of M-in-STEM is to recruit, develop, support and retain developmental students, who are interested in STEM, and prepare them to accelerate through mathematics developmental courses to complete associate degrees and transfer to 4-year institutions.

R-GEMS+T (Rural Girls Engaged in Math and Science plus Technology)
R-GEMS+T (Rural Girls Engaged in Math and Science plus Technology) aims to increase students’ awareness of opportunities in STEM related fields, to motivate students to pursue appropriate educational pathways to STEM-related careers and provide technology-rich experiences that develop disciplinary knowledge, practices, and non-cognitive skills needed in STEM fields.
Services include:
Summer apprenticeships for high school juniors and seniors, spring break tours, Fall STEM Girls Rock Symposium, after school student science fair assistance.

Project WISH (Women Interested in STEM at Hinds) aims to improve access of under-graduate science and engineering through community outreach programs to minority females, and to improve the quality of preparation for careers in STEM fields.
Services include:
- Summer apprenticeships for high school juniors and seniors,
- Spring break tours,
- Fall STEM Girls Rock Symposium,
- After school student science fair assistance.
