Student Success Center
About
The Student Success Center (SSC) is a comprehensive set of programs and services to support all students, from first semester to graduation, in setting and meeting their instructional goals. SSC locations offer a student friendly work environment where students may work on their own, in groups, or with a lab specialist or tutor. The following services are provided free to students:
Tutoring
All tutoring infomation can be found in the QuadC in Canvas.
We offer general tutoring, academic coaching, course-specific tutoring, and mentoring. Come in person or join virtually. Schedule an appointment or drop by any of our locations.
General Tutoring/Academic Coaching
General tutoring is available for all students. This includes assistance for knowing how to submit assignments, using resources that instructors have provided in Canvas, or navigating ebooks. Academic coaching is also provided for a variety of topics including time management, study and note-taking skills, organization, combatting procrastination, and communication skills.
Course-Specific Tutoring
Course-specific tutoring is provided by faculty at SSC locations as well as virtually. The courses vary by semester.
Academic Coaching
Academic coaching services are provided by an SSC Lab Specialist, tutors, and faculty. Students will learn time management, study skills, note-taking, how to combat procrastination, and how to communicate with their instructors.
Non-Credit Training
The Student Success Center will offer a variety of non-credit courses and training opportunities designed to meet the needs of both students and the community at large through the Continuing Education Program. This program will coordinate various services, including but not limited to:
- Hinds Teacher Academy
- Basic Computer Skills and Keyboarding
- ACT Prep
Mentoring
Hinds cares about supporting our students! We provide one-on-one mentoring to all students in LLS/RST 1312 Orientation through our Wingman program to help them successfully acclimate during their first semester. We support Hinds faculty and staff in being trained on Appreciative Advising for all their interactions with students; and we plan to support a Faculty Advising initiative that will connect faculty and students through the Guided Pathways movement.
