Hinds CC Band
Over 90 Years of Tradition
The Hinds Community College Band is one of the oldest and most popular student organizations on our Raymond Campus. The Eagle Band Program was named in 1928 when our first concert bands were built. The earliest marching units were formed in the 1940s. We take pride in the tradition and history of our band program, which continues to thrive on a solid foundation of quality and excellence. Through performance, our program will continue to grow and move forward.
Some our recent accomplishments include:
- The Marching Band supporting our football team and college and games and events along with performing local exhibitions and parades.
- The Wind Ensemble performing for the 2023 Mississippi Music Teachers Association State Conference at Mississippi State University premiering “The Mockingbird Project” by Dr. Earp.
- The Jazz Band performing at local Jazz Festivals.
- Our Percussion Ensemble hosting various percussion clinics.
- Founding and continuing the Hinds CC Invitational Honor Band (February 2023) for area high school students. The event is held annually each February.
We have many ensemble offerings at Hinds with a healthy scholarship plan.
Offerings include Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Brass Ensemble(s), Woodwind Ensemble(s), Percussion Ensembles, Steel Band, Jazz Band, and Rock Band.
Our program is currently under the direction of Dr. Joseph Earp (Music/Music Industry Chair & Director of Bands), Brett Causey (Assistant Director – Woodwinds), Ben Bullock (Assistant Director – High Brass), Dr. Carla Stovall (Instructor – Low Brass), Paul Heindl (Assistant Director – Percussion), Angela Hite (Hi-Steppers Director), and Bekah King (Guard Instructor).
Auditions are ongoing and held throughout the year. Please be sure to fill out an online band application and contact us if you have any questions.
Scholarships
All students in band receive generous scholarships that may be applied toward tuition and/or room and board costs. Our scholarships are stackable and can be combined with other forms of financial aid to form a great package. Most students receive other sources of financial support and are able to use the band scholarship to cover the cost of books and other fees.
Band Alumni
Did you enjoy your time in the Hinds Band? No matter how much time has passed it feels like only yesterday that we were part of the Eagle Band. We’re actively building the band chapter in the Hinds CC Alumni Foundation. Take time to register with the foundation. The cost is minimal and you’ll receive information about Hinds CC Alumni events.
