Crissy Sadler

Crissy Sadler of Bentonia is the recipient of the annual Carla McCulloch Scholarship for 2013 at Hinds Community College.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a second semester student in the Associate Degree Nursing program at Hinds Community College.

The scholarship was created by the McCulloch family in memory of their daughter Carla, a Simpson Academy graduate who was a Hinds nursing student at the time of her death in an April 1991 accident. The family formerly lived in Magee. The award is made annually to a second semester nursing student who demonstrates the caring and enthusiasm for nursing that Carla embodied.

“We wanted to keep her memory going as long as we can, and hopefully that will be forever,” said her father Larry McCulloch of Roanoke, Va. “And we want to be able to help other students out that may be needing a little assistance.”

Carla’s father and mother, Carol McCulloch, were unable to attend the scholarship naming this year. In their place was Robin Greenlee of Kilmichael, Carol McCulloch’s sister.

“The staff at Hinds Community College has been such a great source of comfort to our family,” said Greenlee. “Don’t ever minimize what you do; God sees all, and He blesses the caretakers.”

Sadler, a second semester nursing student, graduates in May and plans to move on to the RN-MSN transition program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse in the state of Mississippi.

“I served as an EMT in the Army and I loved working hands-on, so I knew I wanted to pursue nursing,” she said. “I want to spend my career helping people.”

Sadler resides in Bentonia with her husband, Josh, and their sons Hunter and Payton.
