Jacob Iles of Bolton has an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree and one-year career certificate, but the experience of working in the Hinds bookstore turned out to be the training he needed to become a successful radiologic technologist.
“At Hinds, people came through the door looking for assistance and wanted me to be kind and helpful,” Iles said. “In the ER, it is not that different. The people skills that I learned there continue to help me today.”
Iles graduated from Hinds in May 2003 with an associate degree in liberal arts. He chose Hinds because of the proximity to his home and scholarship opportunities, as well as the opportunities to participate in the work-study program, Hinds Connection and community college tennis.
After graduating from the University of Mississippi radiologic technology program, he began working full time at UMMC’s emergency room in 2009 and then last fall enrolled in the radiology therapy program at 21st Century School for Oncology in Florida.
