Hinds Community College’s Honors Institute presented 20 students with awards of excellence for the 2021-22 academic term. Each named a faculty mentor, who received a certificate as an Honored Faculty Member during a ceremony April 27.

Honors Scholars carry 12 or more honors hours and must maintain an overall GPA of 3.25 or better, take two Honors Forum classes and have at least 10 hours of community service.

Distinguished Honors Scholars complete 18 or more honors hours and have two semesters in the Leadership Program. They must maintain an overall GPA of 3.5 or better, take three to four Honors Forum classes and have at least 10 hours of community service.

Three members of the Hinds Eagle baseball team were also Honors Scholars and named mentors. They were Reed Kellum, who named Music Instructor John Jackson as a mentor; Henry Lee, who named Career and Technical Education Dean for Construction and Manufacturing Jason Webb as a mentor; and Robert Riggin, who named Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Baseball Coach Andrew Gunn as a mentor.
