RAYMOND—Members of the Hinds Community College Veterinary Technology Program gathered on Thursday, May 9, in the Veterinary Technology building on Seven Springs Road, Raymond Campus, for an awards ceremony.

Gordon Cordes, Veterinary Assistant Tech Instructor, spoke to first-year students about the importance of getting internships for the summer and expressed pride in the fact that every one of them had an internship already lined up. The next step for those graduating will be to take state and national veterinary exams and become Certified Veterinary Technicians.

Cordes said the program is an intense challenge for students in the first year, and many don’t make it.

“You are living other people’s dreams. You are getting to do what others only wish,” Cordes said.

The awards for the Veterinary Technology program for Spring 2024 are as follows:

  • Bailee Givens of Flowood received the Bobby Glenn Scholarship, which pays tuition for a summer internship.
  • Jasmine Lyons of Clinton received the First-year Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association Award (MVMA) – .
  • Madison Bullock of Canton received the Second-year MVMA Award.
