RAYMOND – Hinds Community College recently held the Tammy McPherson Writing Competition among the college’s campuses. Individual campus winners were selected and overall college winners were selected. All received certificates and cash awards.

Overall winners included:
Essay: Raymond Campus student Iesha Hayes of Jackson, “A Mother’s 18th Wish,” first place
Vicksburg-Warren Campus student Anthony Bowen Hearn of Vicksburg, “Uncle Booger,” runner-up

Individual location winners were invited to a brief ceremony and reading of their entries.

Tammy J. McPherson was a Raymond Campus English instructor who passed away December 2022 after 18 years at Hinds. The competition is named in her honor.
