Hinds Community College’s office of student services is coordinating preventative educational programs throughout the college’s district in recognition of April as Sexual Assault/Abuse Awareness Month.
Hinds will host Denim and Maroon Day on Thursday, April 10. The Raymond Campus’ program will be held that day at 2 p.m. in room 165 of Reeves Hall.
Other campuses will have programs as follows:
April 10, 11 a.m. – Rankin
April 23, 12 p.m. – Jackson Campus-Nursing/Allied Health Center
TBA – Jackson Campus-Academic/Technical Center
The college is working in a collaborative effort with Hinds County Sherriff Department, Victim Assistance Coordinator Kewanna Ward, and in conjunction with several other organizations.
“It is vital to educate and enrich our campus communities with preventive programs and resources,” said Sharon Alexander, district coordinator of student conduct and development at Hinds. “Even though, some employees and students may not have dealt with sexual assault or abuse personally, it is of the utmost importance to have knowledge and resources available.”
