Hinds Community College has named Doug Sills, Chief Executive Officer at River Region Health System in Vicksburg, and Sen. Briggs Hopson, District 23, Issaquena, Warren and Yazoo counties, as speakers for the summer 2013 graduation ceremonies Aug. 2.
Sills will speak to 10 a.m. nursing and allied health graduates and Hopson will speak at 2 p.m. for the academic and technical education graduation. Both ceremonies are held in Cain-Cochran Hall of the Raymond Campus.
Sills has more than 32 years of health care management experience and has received numerous accolades for professional achievement. He and his wife, Rebecca, came to River Region in 2011 from Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston, La. Sills is active in the Vicksburg community and in Mississippi’s healthcare community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Vicksburg Warren County Chamber of Commerce, Central Mississippi Trauma Region and the Mississippi Hospital Association. The Sills’ have two children and two grandchildren.
Sen. Hopson, R., has more than five years’ experience with the Mississippi Legislature. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and is an adjunct professor at the Mississippi College School of Law. Hopson is also a practicing attorney. He is a member of several legislative committees, including the Judiciary, A and B committees, and is chair of Judiciary A. He is also a member of Accountability, Efficiency, Transparency; Appropriations; Education; Tourism and Universities and Colleges, among others. Hopson is also a member of Mission Mississippi, Mississippi River Trail, the United Way, the Mississippi Bar and the Red Carpet Bowl. He is married to the former Alison Quaid. They have three children, Liam, Walt and Jane.
