Career Planning
The Advising office on the Raymond campus is now offering the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) to currently enrolled students. The SII is a self-assessment instrument that is used to help you make satisfying decisions about your career and education. The SII measures interests, not skills or abilities, and the results will help guide you toward rewarding careers. Advisors are available after testing to go over your results and explore career paths.
Transferring to a Senior College
Students may take freshman and sophomore level transferable academic courses while at Hinds. Generally, one-half of the hours required for a bachelor’s degree may be transferred from a community college and applied to that degree at a four-year college or university. We maintain a close working relationship with all Mississippi senior colleges to insure that all academic courses which are intended to transfer will do so.
Hinds CC students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university should be aware of the transfer requirements that may apply in their particular cases. These requirements vary with age, ACT score, high school preparation, high school GPA, and the individual transfer college.

What is Student Onboarding?
– New Student Onboarding: Onboarding prepares you for enrollment, and allows you to set up your student preferences and establish residency in one place.
– Continuing Student Onboarding: This is your chance as a student to make any updates to your student profile that you’ll need us to know.
– Please note: Onboarding is extremely important, so there is a hold attached to it that will prevent you from registering for classes! But, it automatically falls off your account when you submit the last step.
Do I owe money or have a restriction from the admissions or business office that needs to be cleared?
– Check your action items and holds tab in Navigator. If there is a balance or restriction, go to the appropriate office or call 601-857-5261 for guidance on how to remove your hold.
What classes have I successfully completed toward my major?
– You can check your academic progress in Navigator under the Academics icon in the menu. There, you’ll see the courses you’ve completed and the courses you’ll need to take to earn your degree.
What does it mean if a class has a prerequisite?
– A prerequisite for a class means that there is another course (or courses) that you must complete before enrolling in that class. It’s like a requirement to ensure you have the necessary background knowledge or skills to succeed in the more advanced course. The College Catalog is an excellent resource for viewing course descriptions and seeing if there are any prerequisite classes.
I’m interested in Nursing & Allied Health programs. What are the admission requirements?
– Admission requirements for each program are listed on the individual program’s webpage. You can view our Nursing and Allied Health programs in the Health Sciences Pathway here.
How can I view the class schedule of what is being offered and at which location?
– Search for classes, dates, and times in Navigator or view them here.
Who needs to meet with an Advisor?
– New Students: All new students must meet with an Advisor before registering for classes.
– Returning Students: If you have been away from Hinds for at least one semester, you must reapply to the college and submit all admissions requirements before meeting an Advisor.
– Students Changing Programs: If you’re changing your program of study, you must speak with an Advisor.
– Dual Enrollment Students: Dual Enrollment students always need to meet with an Advisor and cannot self-register.
– Continuing Students: If you have been continuously enrolled at Hinds (excluding summers), you can self-register through your Navigator account or meet with an Advisor.
How do I meet with an Advisor?
Students can get advised in two ways:
In-Person Advising:
– Visit any Hinds campus during business hours. No appointment is necessary!
Remote Advising:
– Submit a remote advisement request online.
– An advisor will contact you via your Hinds email within a few business days.
– Remember to check your Hinds email regularly.
IMPORTANT: Before meeting with an advisor, ensure there are no holds on your account that could prevent registration.
Schedule Changes
– Once registered for classes, you can make schedule changes in your Navigator account through the Add/Drop Period. Classes dropped during an Add/Drop period won’t appear on your transcript, and you won’t be charged for them. However, after the Add/Drop period has passed, dropping a class is considered a Withdrawal, resulting in a “W” on your transcript, and you are charged full price for any courses you withdraw from.

Early and Late Registration
Please note the difference between Early Registration and Late Registration
Early Registration:
- New students may register if they have an accepted application, completed Onboarding, and have “official placement” on file, which is defined as official ACT or SAT scores, Hinds Accuplacer, or an official college transcript showing a “D” or higher in both English and Math.
- All other documents and final transcripts are due by the Admission Document Deadline.
Late Registration:
- Once Late Registration begins, no student will be permitted to register for any class unless they are fully admitted, meaning all admission documents have been received and processed by the Office of Admissions.
- In addition, a Late Enrollment Fee is incurred when registering for the first time during the Add/Drop period. This is in addition to the normal Registration Fee that is charged per semester. The Add/Drop preriod starts on the first day of each class start date for all 4-week, 8-week, and 16-week classes.
Applicants should monitor the status of their admission requirements in the Applicant Portal. As your admission documents are received, they will be marked as complete in this portal.
Registration Periods
Class registration takes place before each semester begins and continues up through the Add/Drop period of each term.
Fall Semesters
- Early Registration for the Fall typically opens in early April and continues through July 15.
Spring Semesters
- Early Registration for the Spring typically opens in early November and continues through December 15 (although we are closed for the holiday at this time).
Summer Semesters
- Early Registration for the Summer typically opens in early April and continues through May 15.
Late Registration Periods
- Late Registration begins the day after Early Registration ends and continues through the Add/Drop period class dates.
