Hinds Relief Grant

Up to $1,500 to each Eligible Student

The Hinds Relief Grant is another way we are helping our students push past obstacles that may cause an interruption in their college plans. It’s evident that many of our students still have unmet financial needs, and we are committed to finding ways to help you avoid a gap in your college goals.

$1,000 – Minimum of 3 hrs.
$1,500 – Minimum of 6 hrs.

You Choose How to Spend the Grant

This grant may be used to assist with any component or cost of attendance or for any emergency costs that arise due to the Coronavirus, such as:

  • Tuition & Fees
  • Supplies & Textbooks
  • Technology
  • Room & Board
  • Housing
  • Childcare
  • Medical Expenses
  • Transportation
  • Food

Are You Eligible?

Diploma

Students must have a high school or equivalency diploma. Dual credit, dual enrollment, and students without high school equivalency are not eligible.

Continuing Students

All continuing students who attended Hinds during the Spring of 2022, except for dual credit and dual enrollment and students enrolled exclusively in commercial truck driving, if the student meets all other eligibility requirements, are eligible for the Summer 2022 Hinds Relief Grant.

New Students

In order to receive the Summer 2022 Hinds Relief Grant, new students must reside in Claiborne, Copiah, Hinds, Rankin, or Warren counties. New students who live outside the district will not be eligible for this grant. Students must verify residency status with the Office of Admissions if requested.

Please Note

Students enrolled exclusively in commercial truck driving are not eligible.

Attendance

In order to receive the Summer 2022 Hinds Relief Grant, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours for Summer 2022.

Residency

New students who live outside the district will not be eligible for this grant. Students must verify residency status with the Office of Admissions if requested.

Employees & Children of Employees

Employees and their children will be eligible for this grant. The employee tuition waiver will not be applicable for Summer 2022.

How will I know if I qualify for the Hinds Relief Grant (HEERF III)?
Continuing Students

Students will be notified via their Hinds student email about HEERF III eligibility once funding decisions have been made by the college.

When will money be disbursed?
Summer 2022 Hinds Relief Grant funds will be disbursed prior to the closing of Summer 2022. Eligible students will be notified via their Hinds student email regarding disbursement dates and other important information.
Which semesters must students be enrolled in to be eligible for Hinds Relief Grant (HEERF III)?

Funds from the Summer 2022 Hinds Relief Grant will only be available to students who enroll in Summer 2022.

Residency

Will the Hinds Relief Grant (HEERF III) money be applied to my student account?
Students will have the option to either apply Hinds Relief Grant funds to their Hinds Community College student account to pay towards tuition and fees or receive the funds directly. Students will answer as to their preference during the application process. Be sure to indicate your choice of option during that time.
Will I have to come to the campus to receive the grant?
No. However, if you have not selected a BankMobile refund preference, please do so on the BankMobile Refund Selection website. Any student who chooses to receive the Hinds Relief Grant directly and does not have a refund preference selected by the disbursement date may see a significant delay in funds.
Will students be getting more than one disbursement?
Summer 2022 Hinds Relief Grant funds will be provided to eligible students in one disbursement during the Summer of 2022 (permitting funds are available).
Do I need to repay the Hinds Relief Grant (HEERF III) money I receive?

No. Money you receive from HEERF III does not have to be repaid.

Will this funding reduce my financial aid?
No. This is a one-time grant for Summer 2022 that will not affect your existing financial aid.
Are funds from HEERF III considered taxable income?
No. Emergency financial aid grants given to students because of an event related to the COVID-19 national emergency are not included in the student’s gross income.

The Hinds CARES Grant is made possible by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Section 18004(a)(3), awarded through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education, for grants to students for any component of a student’s cost of attendance, as defined under Section 472 of the Higher Education Act.
