PEARL — The Spring Career Tech Expo held March 8-11 at the Muse Center brought out Hinds Community College students in search of career opportunities once they complete their respective programs.
“My plan is to open up a bakery,” said Becca Roberson, of Florence, among several Culinary Arts Technology students who attended the event, spread over four days this month to allow for proper social distancing. “It’s what I’ve always wanted to do.”
The event gave employers in attendance a chance to market their organizations and identify potential employees, apprentices and interns once students graduate. Students from multiple career-tech programs sought information, including from Nursing and Allied Health, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Business Office Technology, Logistics, Automotive Technology, Diesel Equipment Technology, Carpentry, Welding, Electrical Technology, Plumbing, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and Industrial Maintenance.
Others showed up as well, such as Jeremy Limbaugh, of Raymond, a Film & Video Technology student at the Rankin Campus.
“I came to check out jobs in TV,” he said, visiting with a representative from WLBT 3 in Jackson.
Friends and classmates in Automotive Technology Justin Campbell, of Bolton, Jmarious Thomas, of Jackson, Trayvon Granger, of Greenville, Christopher Lloyd, of Jackson, and Rodrick Denson, of Jackson attended to find a foothold in their chosen career path.
“I want to find my first job out of school, but I also want to own my own shop and business like my father has,” Granger said.
