HSE Diploma Scholarships

Overview

Hinds Community College is proud to offer two scholarship options to eligible high school equivalency (HSE) diploma recipients who choose to enroll at Hinds CC as their first college after receiving their HSE diploma. Warren County students can be awarded our Education Pays scholarship, provided by The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.

Award

Equivalent to the cost of one, three-credit hour college course

Deadline

First day of classes of first freshman semester (either fall, spring, or summer)

Criteria

  • Be a first-time entering freshman, meaning Hinds must be the first college you attend after receiving your HSE diploma.
  • Be admitted to Hinds CC as a Mississippi resident and as a U.S. citizen.
  • Be 17 years of age or older.
  • Enroll in an approved three-credit-hour college course at Hinds CC.
  • Must not be receiving the HSE Diploma Scholarship or the ACT scholarship.

How to Apply

  • Submit an Application for Admission to Hinds CC, and you’ll receive your student ID and HindsNet login credentials via email.
  • Using your HindsNet login credentials, log into the ScholarshipUniverse portal. From there, you’ll answer a series of questions that will match you to scholarship opportunities. After answering the question regarding your High School Equivalency diploma, you will be presented with the application for High School Equivalency diploma scholarships. Then, submit the scholarship application before your first day of classes.
  • Submit your official HSE diploma transcript (either GED, HiSET, TASC, or Mississippi Competency-Based HSE) to the Office of Admissions. We recommend using diplomasender.com to submit your official HSE diploma transcript to Hinds.

The HSE Scholarship is for first-time college students who achieve outstanding scores on the GED, HiSET, or TASC (see score requirements below.)

Award

$1,000 per semester for up to four consecutive semesters, excluding summer terms.

Deadline

First day of classes of first freshman semester (excluding summer terms)

Criteria

  • Must have received one of the following scores on an HSE Diploma test:
    • GED: total score of 640 or higher if the student took the GED on or after January 1, 2014; or a total score of 577 or higher if the student took the GED on or before December 31, 2013.
    • HiSET: a total scaled score of 75 or above.
    • TASC: a cumulative score of 2800 or above.
  • Be a first-time entering freshman, meaning Hinds must be the first college you attend after receiving your HSE diploma.
  • Be admitted to Hinds CC as a Mississippi resident and as a U.S. citizen.
  • Be 17 years of age or older.
  • Enroll full-time (15 or more hours.)
  • Must not be receiving the HSE First-Class-Free Award or the ACT scholarship.

  • Using your HindsNet login credentials, log into the ScholarshipUniverse portal. From there, you’ll answer a series of questions that will match you to scholarship opportunities. Please note: to receive and retain this award, HSE Scholarship recipients must enroll in and be marked present in 15 or more credit hours each semester, complete each semester with 12 or more credit hours and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Cumulative GPA includes all credit earned.
