The Hinds Community College Aviation Department and Camp Shelby have been working on a mutually beneficial partnership that will capitalize on the growing trend of unmanned aircraft.

Camp Shelby is a National Center of Excellence for training Army Guard and Reserve unmanned aircraft operators from across the country. The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) curriculum at Hinds CC will develop specific coursework and college credit geared towards military students and their pursuit of a Career/Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Technology. Also a partner in the effort, Pearl River Community College will provide academic coursework for military students in Hattiesburg.

This partnership will allow an on-site presence at Camp Shelby and will facilitate the training of Hinds Community College UAS students within their restricted airspace.
