02/08/08 - For Clinton native Andrew Sanders, Hinds Community College was the perfect venue to further his music career.

Sophomore Sanders, 20, plays piano in the jazz band and trumpet in the Eagles band and brass ensemble. He wants to turn that experience into a career in the music business.

"If you're a musician and you want to take your knowledge to the next level, this is a great program to do it. At Hinds, the teachers are phenomenal," Sanders said. "They really have helped me to learn all the classical theory."

High school seniors who plan to major in music in fall 2008 will get a chance to see what Sanders is talking about during a music department preview day Feb. 28 on the Raymond Campus.

Registration begins at 3:45 p.m. with an informational session 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will be on the Raymond Campus in Reeves Hall, Room 165.

Students will get a tour of the facilities. They'll have the opportunity to complete applications for admission, housing and scholarships. They'll learn about open audition dates and talk to faculty one on one about preparation for the audition.
