Barbour's budget hits community colleges Gov. Haley Barbour dropped a few bombshells on Nov. 16 when he unveiled his budget proposal, which included a $28.9 million drop, nearly 12 percent, in appropriations for the community and junior colleges for the budget year that begins on July 1, 2010.
Hinds President Dr. Clyde Muse was present for Barbour’s remarks and met the next day with other college presidents and the College Council. Muse said the colleges will continue to present their needs and priorities to legislators.
“We’re not giving up on talking about our priorities, what we’re doing for the state of Mississippi,’ Muse said. “It’s not rosy. There are going to be some difficult times ahead.”
