Paralegal Technology
The Paralegal Technology program is designed for the student who aspires to become qualified to assist attorneys in private practice, business, and government.
How long is the program and will I receive a degree upon graduation?
The Paralegal Technology program at Hinds Community College is a two-year program. Courses from other colleges may transfer for credit in the program. Should you wish to have your transcript evaluated or have any questions, please contact the department chair.
If you wish to take legal courses at Hinds and transfer to another college, please consult the school of your choice to determine what classes will transfer.
Upon passing and completing the two-year program, you will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) in Paralegal Technology. Hinds does not offer a certificate in this area of study.
Do you offer night or online classes?
We offer both evening and online classes each semester. Currently, the only two legal classes we do not offer online are Legal Research and Legal Writing. This is we feel that the student can best learn these subjects through one-on-one contact with an instructor in a classroom setting. Though they are not offered online, they are available during the day and evening.
What are the benefits of taking paralegal classes at Hinds?
• Quality instruction at a low cost
• Free placement service
• Qualified and experienced instructors
• Preparation for voluntary certification
• Legal Club (Hinds Association of Legal Students)
• Affiliated with Mississippi Association of Legal Assistants (MALA)
• Westlaw (computerized legal research) instruction
• Day, evening, and online classes available at both locations
How do I begin the enrollment process?
Complete the Application for Admission and this will start the process. If you have completed courses at another college and wish to use them for transfer credit, you will need to contact the college and request the transcript be sent to the Office of Admissions. Should you need financial aid, the application is available online. You will need to have taken the American College Test (ACT) if you're under 21. Please consult the catalog for the cost of tuition.
