Radiologic Technology
The Radiologic Technology Program is a two-year program that prepares individuals to perform imaging examinations prescribed by physician to diagnose disease processes. Radiographers utilize equipment emitting ionizing images, sound waves or magnetic resonance images to produce radiographic images and provide for personal and patient safety from radiation hazards.

Employment Opportunities
A registered or registry-eligible technologist has much to look forward to in his or her career. Currently, the job market is very promising. Beginning salaries both in the greater Jackson area and in the state range between $33,000 to $41,000 per year. If you are looking for an exciting career in health care, you are encouraged to look into all the career possibilities for a radiologic technologist.
  • As a radiologic technologist, you can be part of the healthcare team by assisting the doctor in diagnosis of patient illnesses.
  • As a radiologic technologist, you can choose an advanced career specializing in computer tomography, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine or radiation therapy.
  • As a radiologic technologist, your starting salary can be between $33,000 - $41,000 per year.
  • As a radiologic technologist, you can work in a hospital or clinical setting, or in a doctor’s clinic.

Admission Information
This program accepts students once per year. The selection is based upon ACT scores, academic grades and personal interview.

  • Complete an Hinds CC Application for Admission and submit it to the Office of Admissions and Records address located in the top right corner of the application.
  • Submit an application to the Nursing/Allied Health Center by January 31st
  • ACT composite score 19 (16 if taken prior to October 1989) completed by January 31st
  • Proof of high school graduation or GED equivalent
  • Completion of the following college courses with a 2.0 GPA or higher by January 31st:
    • College Algebra (3 semester hours)
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab (4 semester hours)
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology II and Lab (4 semester hours)
  • 18 years of age prior to admission date
  • Four (4) hours documented observation in a hospital radiology department completed by January 31st
  • All completed applicants will be allowed to attend the interview process
  • Interview selection with admission committee will be based upon written communication skills, academic GPA and ACT
    Student selection for the program will be based on an interview, academic GPA and ACT composite and sub-scores
  • Submit an observation form and observation schedule to Nursing/Allied Health Center by January 31st.

The following courses are not required pre-requisites but are recommended to be completed prior to school year with a grade of C or higher: English Composition I (3 semester hours); Humanities Elective (3 semester hours); Oral Communications (3 semester hours); Behavioral/Social Science Electives (3 semester hours); Introduction to Computers (3 semester hours); Medical Terminology (3 semester hours)

All of the above courses will be required to be completed before graduation of Radiologic Technology program.
