General Information

Mission Statement
The mission of the radiologic technology program is to provide students with an academic and clinical environment conducive to learning the skills necessary to become competent in medical communication, radiographic procedures, imaging equipment, radiation protection, and evaluation of radiographs.  To provide the necessary learning experiences that enable radiologic technology graduates to become an effective member of the health care team.                  

Goals
  • To provide a learning environment for students to obtain academic knowledge and clinical skills in  radiologic technology.
  • To provide the necessary resources and technology to enable students to become efficient in the application of theoretical and technical knowledge.
  • To provide an environment that promotes and demonstrates radiation protection for patients and personnel. 
  • To provide sequenced learning experiences to promote the development of critical thinking skills.
  • To provide experiences that enable students to communicate effectively and appropriately.
  • To encourage the formation of a well-rounded sense of responsibility, integrity, tolerance, and tact.
  • To provide leadership that demonstrates the ethical principles involved in the medical environment.
  • To encourage an interest in, and a desire for further professional growth.
Credentialing Information
After graduation from this two-year program, the student will sit for a national registry examination. The graduate must pass this examination in order to practice as a radiologic technologist. Also, the graduate must contact Mississippi Department of Health.

Accreditation
This program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.

Pregnancy Policy
It is the policy of the school that each student is made aware of any possible adverse effects of radiation on the unborn fetus (see Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide 8.13). Each student has the option of declaring or remaining private with her pregnancy. If the student does not declare a pregnancy, the program will maintain the Standards for Protection Against Radiation. If the student declares a pregnancy, in writing, she would have the option of:

Academically
  • Continue with courses under the college policies - OR -
  • withdraw from the program and defer to the following year.
Clinically
  • Continue with the program and have the option of having the clinical rotations reassigned to low-radiation areas during the first trimester and complete all phases of required clinical competencies during remainder of pregnancy - OR -
  • continue with the regular scheduled clinical rotations throughout the entire pregnancy. The declared student also has the right to undeclared the pregnancy at any time. This is in accordance with federal and state law.
