Admission Information Application forms are available from Admission & Records at any HCC campus or download and print the Application for Admission to Hinds Community College. Be sure to write MLT or Medical Laboratory Technology for FIELD OF STUDY. Incomplete applications may not be considered. ACT scores and high school transcripts should be sent at the same time or as soon as available. Transfer students will need to send official transcripts with the latest grade information.
Admission decisions will begin in the spring semester and continue until the first day of class in August or until the maximum number of 20 students are accepted. In addition to the general admission requirements, the MLT Program has specific program admission requirements as follows:

Complete an Hinds CC Application for Admission and submit it to the Office of Admissions and Records address located in the top right corner of the application.

Applicant must submit an application to the Nursing/Allied Health Center.

Applicant must be a high school graduate as confirmed by a high school transcript or GED equivalency transcript.

Applicant must have attained the age of eighteen years upon completion of the program.

Applicant must have a minimum ACT composite score of 18 (15 if taken prior to October 1989) with a sub score of 18 in the math and reading section (15 in math and 16 in reading if taken prior to October 1989).

Based upon documented satisfactory past performance in selected college-level studies, the above minimum test score requirements may be waived. Contact the MLT Chairperson for specific information. If a waiver is desired, the applicant must submit the request in writing to the MLT Chairperson.

It is recommended that Anatomy and Physiology be completed within 5 years prior to program entry.

Submitting information to other Hinds Community College locations will delay the processing of the applicant's file.

The applicant must submit a College Approved Health Form, completed and signed by a physician, confirming that he/she is of good health and possesses the required physical abilities to function satisfactorily within the program and occupation. Drug screening will be required as part of the physical exam.

In order to progress in the MLT program, a grade of C or better is required in all MLT and general academic courses.

All MLT students must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Program before entering clinical training. Classes are offered at the Nursing/Allied Health Center.
