Continuing Education Courses
CPR Training - Hinds Community College is a Training Center for the American Heart Association for training in Basic Life Support. Offered: Three times monthly.
Emergency Medical Technology First Responder is designed to provide training to emergency response personnel who are not involved with transporting patients and is appropriate for fire fighters, police officers, law enforcement personnel and civil defense personnel. This course is 40-clock hours and is usually offered one night per week in the evenings during the fall semester.
IV Therapy for LPNs is an 80-hour course for LPNs to obtain an IV Therapy permit from the Mississippi State Board of Nursing. Courses are generally offered in conjunction with area hospitals.
EMT Basic Refresher is a 24-hour DOT curriculum for EMT Basic licensure renewal. Dates and times are announced each semester.
Paramedic Refresher is a 48-hour DOT curriculum for Paramedics. Dates and times are announced each semester.
Reorientation to Nursing is for nurses to regain active status with the Mississippi State Board of Nursing. The 180-clock hour class includes 80 hours of theory online and 100 clinical hours in a local hospital. Offered: Summer Term, Fall and Spring Semester
Radiology for Dental Auxiliaries, an 8-clock hour course, is required for dental assistants to obtain a radiology permit from the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners. The course is offered several times per year. Offered: August 13 & 14, 2010; October 1 & 2, 2010 November 5 & 6, 2010; February 11 & 12, 2011; April 7 & 8, 2011; May 20 & 21, 2011 and June 24 & 25, 2011.
Basic Surgical Techniques for RNs, a 24-hour course, provides information and skill practice to acquire competencies in aseptic technique, safe patient care, and procedural techniques.
Ethical / Legal Issues in Nursing is a 6-hour course, includes regulations in nursing, scope of practice, patient rights, malpractice and causes of disciplinary action. This course is approved by the Mississippi Board of Nursing. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. Offered: August 14, 2010; December 4, 2010; March 5, 2011 and May 21, 2011.
