Automotive Technology

Goals
Automotive Technology is an instructional program that prepares individuals to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of motor vehicles by providing classroom instruction and laboratory experiences using equipment comparable to that found in industry. Upon successful completion of the two-year program, the student will be awarded a Certificate. Automotive Technology is an ASE certified instructional program.

This instructional program for post secondary students has been approved by the Vocational-Technical Division of the Department of Education of the State of Mississippi. The curriculum is based upon the task list published in ASE Certification for Automobile Training Programs. The task list serves as a national standard for certification of automobile technician training programs and is regularly reviewed and validated by technicians in the automotive industry.

Employment Potential
Students will find the Automotive Technology program a reliable and thorough training ground for employment in the automotive industry. The program has an excellent reputation with local industries looking for skilled workers and placement of students who complete the program is a top priority. Typical jobs filled by students who have completed this program include automobile repairmen and service advisors with approx-imate salary range of $8 to $12 per hour.

Costs
Tuition and fees are approximately $900 per semester for full-time students. Successful completion of four semesters is required to complete the program. Students must purchase their own tools at a cost of about $1,500 and books at a cost of about $350.
